Major New Coach Order for 2003

Mercedes Benz Touro coachBig news for the new year. We have once again placed a massive order for 21 new coaches for delivery in 2003. All are brand new, and built to our own high specifications.

Twenty stunning Mercedes Benz Touro coaches (photo, right) will replace a number of our three year old Setras. This is the first big order for these new coaches since their introduction at the Bus and Coach Show in Birmingham earlier this year.

Beulas Midi-Star servery and washroom areaWe are also rationalising our 'small coach' fleet, replacing our 'standard' 35 seat MAN Berkhof with a higher specification 32 seat Beulas Midi-Star complete with spacious servery and washroom area (shown in photo, left). This addition will complement our two 32 seat executive specification MAN Berkhof coaches, giving us a fleet of three similarly specified small coaches. The Midi-Star arrives in March 2003.

These new orders ensure that our fleet of 45 coaches remains one of the newest and best specified in the country.

Our thanks to Stuart Jones, editor of Bus and Coach Buyer magazine, for permission to reproduce their photo of the Touro coach.

Great New Idea - 'His and Hers' Tours

His and Hers tours from Consort ToursIt's a simple fact of life that - given a choice - men and women would often prefer to visit different places on a day trip. But men and women like to go on day trips together, so what's the solution to keep everyone happy?

The solution is Consort's new 'His and Hers' tours. Putting political correctness firmly in the back seat, each tour includes two destinations, one with men in mind, and one aimed more at women. The men and women split up to visit their separate attractions. Of course there is nothing to stop men choosing the 'womens' destination, or vice versa!

There are several 'His and Hers' trips for the coming season, for example The RAF Museum at Hendon combined with Brent Cross Shopping Centre, or the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon combined with the National Herb Centre. Another trip visits a Vineyard and a Steam Railway in Kent, and for this trip men and women visit both attractions.

'His and Hers' is a great idea. Why not get a group together and hire your own coach, choosing your own combination of destinations? Consort will make all the arrangements for you. Just give them a call on 020 8657 8800 for full details.

The service was a great success, offering a great first impression and a comfortable and convenient journey for thousands of delegates.

New Baby Coach Makes Its Debut in Birmingham

Redwing coaches outside Herstmonceux CastleHere is our new 'Baby' coach on display at the Coach Expo in Birmingham on the 1st of October. Not only is this the first picture of our coach, it is also the world premiere of this completely new model for Iveco.

Sporting an Iveco Tector F4A 6 cylinder engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox, the new coach is fitted out to an Executive specification. The 32 seats recline and are fitted with folding tables, while a rear servery and a WC provide the essential creature comforts.

Known as the Iveco Beulas Midi-Star E MidiRider the name is certainly quite a mouthful, but the coach itself is a thing of beauty. We are looking forward to bringing it into service around March 2003.

A Smooth Day Out For 1000 Prize Winners

Redwing coaches outside Herstmonceux CastleWe recently organised a large scale day trip for one thousand American competition winners on behalf of a corporate client.

Twenty coaches were involved in the operation at various locations. Six coaches were based at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex (picture, right) to meet the prize winners who travelled to a nearby railway station on the famous Orient Express (picture, lower left).

The Orient Express trainThis kind of high volume, time sensitive operation needs precision planning before the event and effective supervision in the field on the day. The potential for confusion and delay is considerable if left to inexperienced hands.

However, we have a great deal of experience handling demanding projects like this. If you have an upcoming event that's already causing you sleepless nights get in touch and we'll deal with it for you. Make the call - you won't regret it!

Redwing drivers wait outside Herstmonceux CastleYes. Who are these smartly dressed men?

Wedding guests? Delegates at a business seminar? Secret Service agents?

No! They are Redwing drivers on duty during a multi coach operation at Herstmonceux Castle recently (See story above).

Redwing drivers are always smartly turned out. You won't find them slouching around in old T-shirts and baseball caps. Our drivers take a pride in their appearance. It's all part of providing a highly professional service from start to finish.

Hooray! No Congestion Charges for Coaches

Traffic congestion in Piccadilly, LondonStarting on 17 February 2003 London's mayor Ken Livingstone hopes that making drivers pay £5 to enter the city centre betwen 07.00 and 18.30 will cut traffic by at least 10%.

However, this does not apply to our coaches, so don't let this put you off travelling in London with Redwing.

Our picture (right) shows the congestion at 16.24 today in Piccadilly. Not very pleasant! The BBC have 160 online 'jam cams' in London - visit www.bbc.co.uk/london/travel/jamcams to check out your journey home.

The theory is that the congestion charges will improve conditions for the city's pedestrians, cyclists and bus drivers, and those motorists who pay the charge can expect quicker journey times. Reduced noise, air pollution and traffic accidents will also, in theory, pay economic as well as social dividends. We'll have to wait and see what actually happens.

The road tolls are expected to raise about £130m a year, which must be spent on public transport for the first 10 years. The charging zone covers eight square miles in the city centre, just 1.3% of the total 617 square miles of Greater London.

Detroit Triumphs Over Here

Detroit Triumph Sports Car Club members board their Redwing coachOne of the most enthusiastic and lively groups we have looked after recently was a large party from the Detroit Triumph Sports Car Club (DTSCC). That's 'Triumph' as in Triumph Stag, Triumph Spitfire, TR6, TR7 and all those well known models from the 1970s. They are also interested in other British marques, including MGs and Rovers, old and new.

Thirty seven club members came all the way to England especially to visit various Triumph and MG related sites, to see a bit of the country and generally have a good time. They quickly 'adopted' our driver Mark Hamilton, who stayed with them throughout their tour.

Triumph Stag owned by Redwing's coachmakerThe packed schedule included visits to Beaulieu National Motor Museum, Cotswolds Motor Museum, the British Motor Heritage Trust Museum at Gaydon, Sudeley Castle, Warwick Castle, Stratford, and a good number of traditional British pubs. Meetings and receptions with various British enthusiasts clubs throughout the country were a great success.

Detroit Triumph Sports Car Club coach at LongbridgeBut the highlight of their trip was a visit to the MG Rover factory at Longbridge, where a full day's schedule of factory tours and test drives had been arranged. Members drove several types of MG and Rover cars and were very impressed.

Their trip is an excellent example of how - with a bit of careful planning - a lot of activities spread over a large area can be efficiently scheduled to create an exciting and memorable coach tour. If you have a group and you want to organise a complex trip like this, just call our Sales Manager to find out how we can help you.

PCV Trailer Training with Redwing

PCV trailer trainingOur Redwing Driver Training School has a new product: we can now train PCV drivers to cope with large trailers. The trailer alone is twenty feet long. When hooked up to our dedicated training coach the rig is about sixty feet long. And you thought a caravan was bad enough!

Of course, all our managers had to have a go... top marks go to our Transport Manager, who reversed it around the corner first time. Others were less successful on their first attempts - it takes practice to avoid ending up with the trailer at 90 degrees! And that, of course, is why we invested in this new piece of kit. We can now offer this advanced training - and the opportunity to practice both off-road and on-road - to our drivers and to trainees at our Driving School.
